Exhibitions - 2008 - Eva Rubinstein: Elegies
Eva Rubinstein: Elegies is the first solo exhibition of the photographs of Eva Rubinstein in New York since 1989.
Whether photographing a common place object such as elegantly muddled warm bed sheets, tear gassed streets of Derry Ireland in 1972, an intimate encounter among a taxi driver and his lover, or an extravagant Bloomsbury socialite in her bedroom and an image in the same abandoned mansion bedroom 10 years later; Eva Rubenstein has a very personal and intimate relationship with the subject, photographing it with a reverence that breathes warmth into images that embrace life, death, and love. In Eva’s photographs light is a fundamental element, emphasizing that with too much light we are blinded; too much dark we are lost. “Eva Rubenstein has translated simple details of her life into stunning and profound photographs.” (André Kertész).
