Jan Krugier Gallery

Exhibitions - 2007 - Drawing in Space

Gjon Mili's famous photograph captures the ingenious speed and ease with which Picasso executed his many masterpieces. Here, we see a moment caught in time: the creation of a drawing through movement and line. As he traces the lines of the bull, we see Picasso in action and witness the vital, primal movement of drawing itself.

This exhibition follows the line as it is being drawn, focusing on the very action of drawing, and the forms that develop from these lines. Jan Krugier reawakens the creative moment that has long passed, concentrating on the gestures inherent to the creation of the works. Thus, every work is experienced and understood from its very beginning, from "the first cry," and beyond, transcending dimension and media

Krugier juxtaposes and relates the works of a carefully selected group of modern and contemporary artists, in both natural and unexpected ways. The connections among these works perfectly underline the movement, energy and lyricism that the title of the exhibition suggests.

This exhibition is presented in association with RIchard L. Feigen & Co..
