Exhibitions - 2000 - Correspondences/Erotica
The Correspondenaces and Erotica exhibitions were held simultaneously at the Jan Krugier Gallery.
Correspondences seeks to explore the visual interactions between works by major 20th century artists, ranging from Paul Klee and Francis Bacon. Through different media and artistic styles, these works speak to one another and unite with a common artistic vision. The exhibition includes such masterpieces as Francis Bacon's Study for a Pope (1955) and Henri Matisse's magnificent bronze Henriette series from the 1920's, rarely seen together. The exhibition also includes an oil painting by Yves Tanguy, La main dans les nuages (1927) and a universal constructivist canvas by Joaquin Torres-Garcia, Constructivo con cuatro figuras (1932). In addition, the exhibition will focus upon Pablo Picasso's particular powerful stylistic range through such works as the elegant Dora Maar assise de profil (1936) and he bronze Les bras (1959).
Erotica is dedicated exclusively to a suite of erotic drawings and graphics by Pablo Picasso from the last years of his career. These works testify to the artist's fluidity and imagination in both drawn and printed media even at the end of his life and career. The exhibition features a group of rarely seen drawings, a vivid body of work executed only a few years before his death.
This exhibition was held at the Jan Krugier Gallery former location at 41 East 57th Street.
